How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Speech Therapy may be recommended if a child is showing difficulties in the following areas of development:

  • Inconsistent eye contact

  • Social Play and participation

  • Lack of development of non-verbal communication (i.e. gestures, pointing,)

  • Delayed development of speech sounds/articulation

  • Difficult to understand

  • Has difficulty following directions

  • Hesitates often, repeats or prolonged sounds

  • Has difficulty chewing and swallowing

  • Receptive and/or expressive language concerns

  • Social communication difficulties

  • Learning differences

  • Decreased oral motor strength
